Stretching Exercises
Stretching is vital for strengthening and increasing the flexibility of muscles and the prevention of soft tissue injuries.
 
  • It's advisable that your club formulates a stretching routine for all players learn and remember, especially when they're late to training and need to warm-up by themselves.

  • You should establish some rules to enforce your stretching routine prior to any other activity. Some players get to training early and practice end-to-end kicking without doing any stretching beforehand. Players also have a tendancy to leave the oval as soon as ball work is over.

Your club's stretching routine should:
  • Be mandatory for all players, especially those late to training who have missed stretching with the main group.
  • Take place immediately after jogging 1-2 warm-up laps.
  • Focus player's minds on the session ahead.
  • Not include footballs.
  • Last for no less than 10 minutes and cover all the following body parts:
    • Head, neck, shoulders and arms.
    • Upper & lower back.
    • Hips, adductors and abductors.
    • Hamstrings
    • Quadriceps
    • Calves
  • Be mixed with some jogging between stretching the major muscle groups on cold nights (eg head/neck/shoulders/arms then jog, upper/lower back then jog, etc).
  • Take place at the end of training after the final ball exercise.
